A Hero Home On Leave

Oil on panel. This is a portrait of my dad Charles Edward Flynn Jr. while home on leave from Army medical school before shipping to England to join the allied forces on D-Day. His ship landed D-Day plus 3 days and he spend the rest of his European tour supporting the troops on the front line. I’ve always been in awe of this generation’s sacrifice and when I found this image I had to paint it. Not just for today but for future Flynn generations.
