This painting is sad, personal, mysterious, and experimental. I was thinking a lot about the line and color's purposes to be for the good of the composition. With the oranges, blues, and varying brushstrokes, I want this piece to provocatively, confusingly, and overwhelmingly pull its viewer's emotions apart. I understand that this emotion would likely be melancholy. The days were gray leading up to and during my work, both physically and conceptually. My sister, featured next to me in the bottom right, had been suffering from illness for some time, flaring up around this time in an especially disheartening way. My family has reacted in ways that I feel adds to her sickness many times. These events threw me into a self-centered state of introspection, pondering my own troubles past and present. Full disclosure, she's doing better now.
